About
Small tools for a specific, recurring problem
Preflight started from a simple, repeated frustration: files that look perfect on a screen and then come back from a print shop blurry, off-colour, or trimmed wrong. The gap between what a monitor shows and what a printing press produces is real, and it trips up freelance designers, small business owners, and anyone ordering print for the first time in equal measure.
Rather than one large, do-everything application, Preflight is built as a collection of small, single-purpose tools. Each one answers a single question -- is this image sharp enough, is this file in the right colour mode, does this layout have enough bleed -- clearly and quickly, without asking for a signup or an upload to a server.
Most checks run client-side, in your browser. That's a deliberate choice: it keeps the tools fast, keeps your files private, and keeps the site honest about what it's actually doing with your data.
The tool set is being built out gradually, starting with a DPI checker and growing from there based on which problems come up most often in real print jobs. If there's a specific prepress check you keep doing by hand, that's exactly the kind of thing this site is meant to replace.
